    QODBC v9 Released!

New Features in Version 9.0
QODBC Release 9.0 supports QuickBooks 2009 for USA, QuickBooks 2009 for UK, Canada and QuickBooks QBi 2009/10 without multi-currency support for Australia/New Zealand/Singapore/Asia Pacific. New QuickBooks SDK versions supported are versions 8.0 and 6.1. There will be a future QODBC release to include the new features in SDK 8.0. At this stage SDK 8.0 is being evaluated by Reckon Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia for inclusion into QuickBooks 2010/11. Multi-currency support was added to QuickBooks in Australia ahead of the multi-currency support added by Intuit into SDK 8.0 in USA. At this stage it is unknown if the SDK will ever support the multi-currency added to QuickBooks in Australia.

Better Remote Support (USA QuickBooks 2009 only)

QODBC version 9.0 adds support for the intuit RDS Server, a tool which allows a full link between QODBC running on your machine, and a copy of QuickBooks running on another machine or even across the Internet!

Better SQL Support
QODBC version 9.0 adds new SQL Syntax our customers have been asking for such as UNION statements and CASE statements.

Unified Naming Support
Field names between different versions of QuickBooks across all different regions has been optimized in QODBC 9.0 so you can use common names across all versions and flavors of QuickBooks.

Included in QuickBooks Enterprise Editions (USA only)
The read-only edition of QODBC has again been chosen to be included as a feature in the QuickBooks Enterprise Edition 2009 product, on the main file menu under Utilities. If you need a read-only edition of QODBC and have this version of QuickBooks, you are ready to go, no purchase required!

The main changes between QODBC v8 and v9 are shown in: Release 9.0.0.249 Fixes

If you are using QODBC with an existing CDKey Code, check the About tab in your QODBC Setup Screen and make sure that the Serial Number second and third digits are either the same or higher than the QuickBooks year you are using.

For example, for QuickBooks 2009 USA Editions you will need the Serial Number to start with either: R09U...... or W09U........ or S09U........

For QuickBooks QBi 2008/09 Australian/New Zealand/Asia Pacific Editions you will need the Serial Number to start with either: R08O...... or W08O........ or S08O......

For QuickBooks QBi 2009/10 Australian/New Zealand/Asia Pacific Editions you will need the Serial Number to start with either: R09O...... or W09O........ or S09O......

If your previous version of QODBC had a CDKey Code for example: -

USA Users: QODBC v8 Read/Write Desktop for QuickBooks 2008, then QODBC will report that you don't have a valid CDKey Code for QuickBooks 2009 and say your evaluation has expired.

Australian Users: QODBC v6 Read/Write Desktop for QuickBooks 2006, then QODBC will report that you don't have a valid CDKey Code for QuickBooks 2008/09 and say your evaluation has expired.

New Zealand Users: QODBC v9 Read/Write Desktop for QuickBooks 2008/09, then QODBC will report that you don't have a valid CDKey Code for QuickBooks 2009/10 and say your evaluation has expired.

You will need to purchase a new QODBC license CDKey Code from your regional sales office.

Intuit QuickBooks Enterprise Users within USA: Check the "About" tab in the QODBC Setup Screen for the existance of a previous full product license. If you had a previous QODBC full product activation, you will need to deactivate your CDKey Code in order for QODBC to drop back to free operation as a QODBC Enterprise Desktop Edition (Read Only) when using USA versions of QuickBooks Enterprise v6, 7, 8 or 9.

See: How can I get the latest version of QODBC? and QuickBooks SDK 8.0 Beta for U.S. editions of QuickBooks 2009 for more.

QODBC v9 currently supports Australian, New Zealand and Singapore editions of QuickBooks QBi 2009/10 without multi-currency support, 2008/09, 2007/08, 2006/07, 2005/06, 2004 and 2003 Pro, Premier, Accountant and Enterprise. QODBC v9 doesn't work with QuickBooks EasyStart, Accounting (formally known as Lite), Plus or Small Business Editions.

QuickBooks qbXML SDK/Windows Vista Compatibility and QODBC
QODBC v7.00.00.214 (or higher) now works correctly with USA editions of QuickBooks 2007 R5 (or higher) and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 7.0 R5 (or higher) with the following caveats:

QODBC v9.00.00.253 (or higher) now also works correctly with all non-USA editions of QuickBooks 2008 (QBi 2008/09 or higher) and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 8.0 with the following caveats:

  • The Vista user account must have its User Account Control (UAC) set to On (as recommended by Microsoft, see diagram below).
  • Both QuickBooks and the QODBC application accessing the SDK should be run with standard user permissions (NOT elevated to run as administrator).

To install and use QODBC you must be logged into Microsoft Windows Vista using a Standard login account. When you first install QODBC it automatically activates a FREE "once off" 30 Day QODBC Server Edition Evaluation... so there's nothing to stop you from putting QODBC to work, doing what you need to do today! After 30 Days you will need to purchase a CD Key to activate and continue using the product.  If you haven't already downloaded QODBC, do it now by clicking on the download button here :-

See: How do I install and connect QODBC using Microsoft Vista? for more detail.
